- Mattis X Amarula puppies are here!!
Just like in our past litter announcement, we wanted to take a minute and provide our desired outcome, or what we hope to achieve out of this breeding. This will be short and to the point, but will also serve as an explanation of sorts, of why we are so excited for this litter. The easiest way to go about this would be to lay out what we believe to be the pros and cons/strengths and weaknesses of both Mattis and Amarula, essentially how the two dogs complement each other. Mattis: Amarula: Good head type and muzzle length Needs more length in muzzle Bite, scissor with full dentition Slight undershot, within standard, full dentition Topline, flat/straight Topline, flat/straight Croup, slightly rounded Croup, slightly sloped, straight Rear angulation, on the straight side Rear angulation, moderate & correct Feet, tight Feet, tight “cat like” Movement, on the tight side Movement, effortless & free flowing Drive, moderate Drive, moderate to high Temperament, correct Temperament, correct Our goal with this litter is to improve movement, bring more substance and improve rear angulation. We expect these pups to have great temperaments, have good drive and be excellent companions. Pups were born April 5, 2024. There are two females and nine males in this litter. With the exception of 1 formentino female, all the other pups appear to be gray at this time. Of course, this could change as the pups grow. Both females are reserved and four males are still available. Please reach out if you have questions or are interested in a pup from this litter. - Winter Wonders Week III update
Week three has been marked by continued growth and development. We close out the week with 13 healthy pups, all of whom are walking and have completely opened their eyes. The best part? They are becoming vocal; barks, growls, whining, and howling, it’s great. Not many things match the sound of 13 Cane Corso puppies "singing" all at the same time… Cooperation from these pups is a rarity. Luxe continues to slowly take a step back and from the pups. She has reduced the amount of time she spends cleaning the pups and increased the amount of time and distance she spends away from them. While she continues to nurse them, we are getting closer to starting them on “puppy mash.” The pups will also be moved into a larger area very soon. Just as in the past, we have provided a few pics of the pups while we still can. In the coming weeks, as the pups become more and more mobile, it will be much more of a challenge to capture them on camera. Because of this, we will likely change from stills to short videos of the pups, up until the time picks are made. We hope you enjoy the pictures. As you can see, some are more "cooperative" than others.... The Boys: Denali: Aquilo: Boreas: Oller: The Girls: Demetria: Aspen: Neve: Ana: Yuki: Morana: Chione: Elsa: Aisi: Candids:
- Winter Wonders, Week II Update!
The last two weeks have passed so quickly, it is hard to believe the pups are two weeks old. They're actually, two days shy of two weeks to be exact. Moving forward, we are going to make this more of a “Winter Wonders Weekend Update, With Vae Victis.” Publishing a blog post on the weekend is so much easier to do and simply makes more sense than a Tuesday release. The pups are all doing great. Each pup will receive their first round of de-wormer this week. We will continue to de-worm Luxe and her pups every two weeks until they go home to their new families. We continue to provide supplemental bottle feedings to the pups several times per day. Luxe is starting to stray from the whelping box more and more often. She will wander just far enough to take a break from her pups, but not so far that she can no longer hear them, she has proven herself to be a fantastic mother. Developmentally speaking, most of the puppies have opened their eyes completely and others are partially opened. Ears aren't quite open yet, but the pups are already experts at using their noses. The pups are also beginning to figure out how to use their legs. This is exciting news and it also means our work is going to get even more involved, very soon. Imagine, 13 little velociraptors, sharp teeth, and claws, all coming to greet you at the same time, we love it. This also means we will soon move the pups to a larger enclosure. The move will give them more room to play and develop. The move will also provide a "designated" play, sleep, eat, and potty area. In an attempt to illustrate their continued growth, we have done our best to attach at least one individual picture of each puppy. Our success depends greatly on the cooperation of 13 two week old puppies. We have also provided a few “group” photos. As always, we are grateful to the families who have chosen and trusted us to provide them with their new family members. Only six weeks to go and your pups will be home with you. Until that time, we will do our best to keep everyone updated on the progress of this litter. Of course, once picks are made, we do intend to continue updates. All the male pups in this litter have been reserved. We still have three females available with limited AKC registration. Feel free to contact us with any inquiries. Boys: Oller (Orange collar): Denali (Blue collar): Boreas (Green collar): Aquilo (Mustard collar): Girls: Aspen (Pink collar): Yuki (Tan collar): Morana (Blue collar): Demetria (Purple collar): Ana (Teal and yellow collar): Elsa (Light blue collar): Neve (Maroon collar): Chione (Light pink collar): Aisi (Lavender collar):
- Winter Wonders (Brennus X Luxe), Week 1 Pupdate
Week one has come and gone, and it’s still freezing cold in the Wichita Kansas area. Raising and competing with the Cane Corso can be a challenge at times, and the sub-zero temperatures absolutely do not help. Throw in a massive litter of puppies and the challenges are magnified. We wanted to use this blog post as an opportunity to update those who have placed a deposit to secure a puppy. We also want to keep anyone else who is following along updated as well. The Luxe x Brennus litter has been officially registered with the AKC. Due to the incredible size of this litter, the AKC required a picture to prove Luxe really did in fact, give birth to the number of puppies we attempted to register. This was not an inconvenience at all, it merely took 1 picture of all the pups which was emailed to the AKC, and within minutes, the litter was confirmed and registered. Registering this litter is important to us, and it should be to the families who have chosen us to provide them with their new family members. Each one of the puppies in this litter will come with official AKC registration. As far as an update goes, there is not too much to report. The pups still have their eyes and ears closed and they are still learning to crawl. Not much in the way of personality can be assessed at this time. The pups have had their tails docked and they are healing well, with no complications. it is safe to say the pups are growing and Luxe is doing a great job. We are doing our best to ensure each puppy is receiving the nourishment it needs to grow. Sometimes this means weighing each pup two to three times a day and stepping in with homemade puppy formula when needed. Sleep has been rare, but we have no doubt the results will be well worth all the work. Things will start moving pretty fast from this point forward. The pups will begin to open their eyes and ears, and then they’ll start learning to walk. We intend to document as much of this process as possible. Soon “personalities” will develop, and we will have a better understanding of what each pup will likely turn into as an adult. Please keep in mind that puppy picks will be made no sooner than 6 weeks of age. After picks are made, there will “only” be two more weeks of waiting until these pups join their families. We anticipate a going-home date around the first weekend of March. On a more fun note, we have named each of the pups. Of course, these names are not permanent, they are simply a way for us and for you to identify them by something more than just their collar color. As previously noted, due to the circumstances around the birth of this litter, we have chosen names that we feel complement the litter theme. Without further ado, here are the pups of the Winter Wonders litter: Boys: The blue-collar boy is now Denali. Denali is the highest mountain peak in North America/Alaska: The orange collar boy is now Oller. Oller is the “Norse god of the winter”: The green-collar boy is now Boreas. Boreas is the “Greek god of the North wind”: The yellow-collar boy is now Aquilo. Aquilo is the “Roman god of the cold”: Girls: The purple collar is now Demetria. Demetria is the “Greek goddess of the winter.” The light blue-collar girl is now Elsa. Yeah, we get it, that name has been played out, but you try coming up with 13 names related to the winter, with a seven-year-old girl in the house, who must have her opinion taken into consideration…. The teal and yellow-collar girl is now Ana. You guessed it, Elsa and Ana…. The light pink is now Chione. Chione is the “Greek goddess of the snow.” The maroon collar girl is now Neve. Neve is the Irish word for snow. The lavender collar girl is now Aisi (pronounced "icey"). Aisi is Polynesian, meaning ice. The tan-collar girl is now Yuki. Yuki is Japanese for snow. The pink-collar girl is now Aspen. Aspen, Colorado. Colorado is cold this time of year too.. The light blue-collar girl is now Morana. Morana is the “goddess of cold.”
- Luxe and Brennus pups have arrived!!!
What did you do on your snow day? No one on this blog post wants to hear about the blizzard or losing power in the middle of the night. No one wants to hear about no water or heat, no lights, no one wants to hear about whelping a litter of puppies while your family has the flu. No, what everyone came here to read about is the arrival of the “Winter Wonders” litter. Luxe went into labor overnight, sometime between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m, Monday night into Tuesday morning, the power went out and Luxe went to work. We were awakened to the sound of puppies yelping around 4 in the morning and quickly made our way to Luxe, who was tending to two new-born puppies in her whelping box. The lack of heat, electricity and running water did not slow Luxe down, so we couldn’t let it slow us down either. After approximately 18 straight hours of labor, we are happy to welcome the Luxe X Brennus litter into world. 13 pups in total, 4 boys and 9 girls. We thought it would be appropriate to name this litter the “Winter Wonders.” We hope you enjoy the puppy pictures we have attached for this litter and follow along with them as they grow and eventually join their new families. These puppies are from AKC Champion bloodlines and we expect excellent temperament and structure. If you are interested in a puppy, please reach out. We still have pups available. We have attached a link for Luxe and Brennus on our team page, along with a link to their pedigrees, as well as a “virtual pup” link so you can view the pups pedigrees all in one place. Lastly, we have attached a link that will take you to our puppy application. Thanks for stopping by, we hope you’ll continue to check in for weekly pupdates. - Luxe X Brennus Update January 4, 2024!
We don't have much to update this time, just a copy of an X-ray taken of Luxe today. Her vet visit well and while we had already confirmed her pregnancy by way of a relaxin test, it is nice to also get a puppy count. The picture above was taken with one of our cell phones so the quality does not quite transfer to this post. It does give everyone an idea of what we are dealing with, and that is anywhere from 11 to 13 puppies. We expect these pups to be born next week, around January 10, 2024. Under normal circumstances, once a pregnancy has been confirmed we will accept deposits on two males and two females. Due to the size of this litter, we have opened up deposits for 4 males and 4 females. With that said, we have already accepted deposits on two males and two females, so we have two more spots for each remaining. Please reach out if you would like to place a deposit on one of the puppies Luxe's team profile: https://www.vvcanecorsos.com/team/vae-victis-patience-is-a-virtue Luex's pedigree database link: https://canecorsopedigree.com/view_pedigree?id=106761 Brennus' team profile: https://www.vvcanecorsos.com/team/senza-tempo's-enemy-of-rome Brennus' pedigree database link: https://canecorsopedigree.com/view_pedigree?id=110679
- Vae Victis Patience Is A Virtue(Luxe) X Senza Tempo's Enemy Of Rome(Brennus), Winter 2024 litter.
You may or may not have heard, but another Vae Victis litter is on the way! We were able to confirm via a Relaxin test that Luxe and Brennus are expecting pups!! This is a very exciting litter for us, and the first litter for both Luxe and Brennus. As we pass the halfway point for this litter’s gestation period, day 39 to be exact from the first breeding, we wanted to take a few minutes to briefly provide a summary of why we have chosen to pair Brennus with Luxe. After all, we aren’t out here just pairing two dogs, with the hope that everything will turn out “good.” Each of our pairings has been carefully considered, many times repeatedly, before the actual breeding takes place. Again, this will be a brief summary… 1. Temperament. Temperament is paramount to us when dealing with the Cane Corso. Luxe is the product of our prior breeding between Tiernan and Lyra. Anyone who had the pleasure of interacting with Lyra or Tiernan will tell you how great their temperaments were. Tiernan in particular had the ideal Corso temperament, he was an absolute gentle giant with his family, yet at the same time, he was extremely protective of his family, especially at home. Luxe is the same way, she is playful with her family & friends, but an excellent protector at the same time. Luxe is the “alpha” of the pack, which is a trait she inherited from her mother, Lyra. Brennus, is as gentle as they come. He is quick to step up when a threat is perceived but also quick to goof off and have a good time. We believe the result of this breeding will produce puppies that possess temperaments similar to their parents, which is exactly what we want. Stable, gentle with family and friends, but protective of those family and friends with strangers or perceived threats. 2. Complementary. Our philosophy is to pair two dogs that complement each other. In other words, where one dog is weak in a particular area, find a mate that is strong in that area. For example, in this pairing, structurally speaking, we believe Luxe possesses a LOT of substance, she is a large female with a lot of bone. While we are not breeding for size, we believe one area that Brennus lacks, is in his substance. He is by no means small, but he could use a little more bone. On the other hand, Brennus has movement that is rarely seen in the Corso breed, he almost glides. Luxe could use improvement in this area. We believe that this pairing, will produce dogs that have a combination of Luxes substance and Brennus’ movement. It is truly a balancing act, but we believe this pairing will produce the desired results. 3. Finally, The future. When it is all said and done, our goal is to improve the dogs we produce with each breeding. We strive to produce dogs that will not only contribute to our breeding program, but will also make a positive impact on the breed over-all. If we can do that, while at the same time provide families with the best dog they’ve ever owned, our mission will have been accomplished. We have attached a link to the “virtual breeding” between Vae Victis Patience Is A Virtue (AKA Luxe) and Senza Tempo’s Enemy Of Rome (AKA Brennus), for you to help expand on the reasons we have given above. Please, take time to click on the link and review the dogs in both of their pedigrees. In Luxes pedigree you will find some very well-known dogs. Many of those dogs, including both of her parents, have earned champion titles in conformation. Tiernan was a dual, AKC/UKC Champion and also earned his AKC DCAT title. Lyra is a UKC Champion and was ranked as the number 10 Cane Corso in 2021, she has also earned her AKC BCAT title. On Brennus’ side, you will see that he is a direct import from Europe. He comes from one of the best-known Cane Coros kennels in the world. These puppies will be a product of legitimate “Champion Bloodlines.” As always, please reach out if you have any questions, and don’t hesitate to fill out our contact form or puppy application if you are interested in one of these puppies. We anticipate puppies that will turn out large, with excellent structure and most importantly unbeatable temperaments. Puppies are due on January 10, 2024, (give or take a few days). - Narco X Vici, Final Update
It seems like just yesterday that we were scrambling to deal with and prepare for an unexpected and unplanned litter. That was almost 3 months ago and there is no reason to continue to dwell on that situation, to do so would be nothing more than “beating a dead horse.” After all, a lot of good came out of that litter. We reached this point with mixed emotions. On the one hand, we are happy that the puppies were successfully placed in the most loving homes we could have possibly found. On the other hand, we are sad to say that the purple collar female we came to know as “Bebe” unfortunately did not make it to her forever home. If we had a third hand, the word “exhausted” would be the appropriate description of how we are feeling. Anyone who has raised a litter of pups knows very well what we are talking about, perhaps sharing a few lessons learned would be appropriate: 1. Vici was the youngest female to produce a litter in our kennel. There seems to be a definitive difference between a mature mother whelping and raising her litter vs an immature female such as Vici. Vici’s labor went smoothly, there were no issues or real concerns we’d say it was the ideal delivery. Unfortunately, it took several days and nights of hand feeding, cleaning, and caring for the pups before Vici seemed to understand she had a job to do. We’re not saying Vici was a bad mother, she just seemed to lack the maturity of an older female. 2. Time and Money! Many people don’t realize the amount of time and money that goes into raising a litter of pups. As mentioned above, we cared for Vici and her pups around the clock for the first three to four days and we weren’t able to let our guard down for the next few weeks. The small things like washing bedding, and providing food and veterinary care came as a shock to Vici's owner, it was a good eye-opening experience for him. Additionally, the non-stop cleaning, washing, and sanitizing are seldom mentioned. 3. The hardest part? Letting them go home to their new families. We already knew this, but it was a great reminder. One of our primary goals in breeding is to place our puppies in the best homes possible. This means filtering through countless puppy applications. Countless hours of observation and desensitization to ensure the right pup goes to the right home. There would be nothing worse than sending a high-drive puppy to a family who wants a companion to spend the days watching TV on the couch. 4. Last, and this one is more of a reaffirmation of what we already knew, the best part of this whole thing is helping people experience what we believe is the best breed in existence. This is truthfully somewhat of a contradiction to #3, but it’s the truth. If we didn’t truly believe the Cane Corso was the best breed ever, we would not try to share our love for them with as many people as possible. In closing, we are excited to watch these puppies grow into the gorgeous dogs we know they will be. Both Vici and Narco are built exceptionally well and despite the negative circumstances surrounding this breeding, the pair produced some excellent pups both structurally and temperamentally. We are thrilled to have formed 8 new friendships in the families that found their new furry family member in one of these pups. We are grateful for the lessons learned, good or bad. We are excited to see what the future holds not only for our new families and their pups but for our kennel as well as two of the pups who are now proudly co-owned with us. We are excited to introduce Vae Victis Goddess of the Night, formerly the teal-collar female, who now goes by Nyx and her owner Ms. Sweany, and Vae Victis Odin Konstantinos Gorgo Alcinder, the blue-collar male, who now goes by Odin and his owner MS. Stewart as part of the Vae Victis team! We hope you enjoy the puppy pictures that are attached to this post. We intend for this post to the be last in this series, however, we will continue to post updates on this litter on our website and our social media platforms.
- 4 Week Pupdate
At 4 weeks old these puppies are a handful. Each one of them is growing fast and developing their own unique personality. We usually try to make a Sunday post and include individual pictures for each puppy, but to be honest, that is getting more and more difficult to do. The pups simply will not sit still long enough to have their pictures taken. We are going to post a few pictures today and then come back over the next few days to include more pictures. To the families who have chosen to place your trust in us, we sincerely thank you! Things are going to start moving very fast, pups are growing and we plan to make picks in two weeks. A milestone worth mentioning is the pups have started on puppy mash and have been de-wormed twice now. They are due for their first round of shots in two weeks. Unless otherwise specified by their future families, the pups will go in for their ear crop on November 21st. As usual, We will keep everyone updated as things progress. There are still a few pups available in this litter, to select homes. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us!! Candids: Blue Collar Male, 4 Weeks. We are really excited with the way this young man is turning out. The blue boy is confident and well built. When he's not hanging out with his litter mates, he loves spending time with his two legged family. Yellow Collar Male, 4 Weeks: Cool, confident and laid back. Yellow still maintains his role as one of the leaders of the pack, he is confident and always ready to interact. Orange Collar Male, 4 Weeks. One word to describe this guy, "Ravenous". This guy lives to eat. Which may mean he will be food-driven as he grows into a gorgeous Corso. Green Collar Male. The green boy is the adventurous one. He might not be the biggest, but he is definitely confident. Purple Collar Female at 4 weeks old. This girl is the sweetest and most photogenic of the litter. Pink Collar Female, 4 weeks old. This girl is playful, out-going and spunky. She is the first of the girls to make her presence known and is always ready to play. Teal Collar Female, 4 Weeks: Last, but certainly not least, teal girl! Probably the most dominant of the females, she is outgoing and confident.
- 3 Week Pupdate!!!
The puppies are now three weeks old. They are growing so fast and are becoming more interactive. Eyes and ears are open on all the pups and they are learning to use their voices. The best part is watching them learn how to be pups. Attached are a few group pictures and a few individual pictures of each pup. We still have availability to approved homes. Please contact us if you have any questions. The Girls: The Teal Collar Female is the largest and at this point the most dominant of the three girls, here are a few of her pictures: The Pink Collar Female is the mid sized female. At this point pink is outgoing and seems very inquisitive, her pics are below: The Purple Collar Female is the smallest out of the females. She is very laid back, loves to snuggle and is quite possibly the most photogenic of the girls: The Boys: The Orange Collar male is the largest of the litter. At this point he seems very laid back and ready to snuggle. The Yellow Collar male at this point is by far the most dominant of the litter. In between eating and naps, he spends his time picking on each of his litter mates. It's still very early in his development, but if this continues he will need to be placed with an experienced home/handler. The Blue Collar male is the third largest male in the litter. He has a great head and personality wise at this point, seems to be laid back. The Silver Collar male is the smallest of the boys. What he lacks in size (for now), he makes up for in his adventurous personality. He is always the first to sneak away when the opportunity presents itself. The Green Collar male is the "go-getter" of this litter. Mr. Green was the first of the litter to walk, bark and howl. Cadids:
- 2 WEEK PUPDATE!!
The puppies are officially 2 weeks old! Things are starting to change fast, the pups' eyes are open and they are all learning to walk. They are even becoming more vocal adding barks and howls to their usual whines when their mom leaves them for a break. All the pups and Vici are doing great. We are finally getting to the fun part, where we can take the pups out of the whelping box for a little early socialization/desensitization. Clearly, the girls are loving their time with the pups. We still have availability on this litter to approved homes, please reach out if you have any questions.
